The Mature Adult Program

People are living longer thanks to the advances of modern medicine. However, while many older adults are in relatively good physical health, they may be struggling with debilitating behavioral health problems. Many older adults struggle with adapting to the continual changes such as loss of physical ability, loss of friends and family, chronic pain, deterioration of thought processes and dementia.

The Mature Adult Program at Northwest Texas Healthcare System Behavioral Health provides inpatient treatment and follow-up partial hospitalization for seniors with behavioral health needs. A medical doctor and psychiatrist follow each patient and social workers and therapists develop discharge plans to encourage independent living. Some problems treated in the Mature Adult Program include:

  • Depression
  • Suicidal thoughts or attempts
  • Onset of dementia
  • Medication management in a hospital setting
  • Psychosis
  • Insomnia that causes mental health problems
  • Loss of mental functioning
  • Unresolved grief
  • Guilt
  • Social isolation
