Northwest Texas Healthcare System Behavioral Health offers an intensive outpatient treatment program (IOP) for adolescents (ages 13 to 17) and adults who suffer from substance abuse. This abstinence-based program is designed to help individuals who have not had success with traditional outpatient treatment. Our program uses group therapy to offer patients an opportunity to learn from each other’s experiences. Group therapy discussions include process groups, psychoeducation and support of appropriate medications. Individual and/or family therapy is available and highly encouraged. Group therapy sessions include a minimum of three one-hour group therapy sessions four days per week during the evening. This allows individuals to maintain their job duties, family and community obligations and regular activities. For individuals who complete the program, additional support is available through weekly meetings at no charge.

Program Goals

Using the 12-step model of recovery, which includes addiction education and accountability, support for appropriate medications and more, our goal is to help IOP patients:
  • Develop and/or use healthy coping skills without substance use
  • Improve relationships with others
  • Manage feelings such as anger
  • Avoid harmful behavior to oneself or others
  • Increase self-esteem
  • Enhance communication skills

What You Can Expect

  • To feel safe and respected
  • To be provided with active treatment

  • To develop a new sense of understanding about your substance use disorder and mental health needs

IOP Treatment Team

The needs of each individual are assessed by a multidisciplinary, clinical team of specialists that includes the program’s psychiatrist, nurse practitioners, licensed professional counselors, licensed clinical social workers and licensed chemical dependency counselors.
